Clearing Out Old Shoes...

Did a wee bit of spring cleaning over the 1 day I was off work after Christmas.

Said good-bye to 4 pairs of shoes which have been with us for years!

First pair was my black leather Mango zip-up boots. Bought them in Bangkok like in 1997 or 1996? Wore them til the soles were barely hanging on...
The next 3 pairs were Camper, bought in Spain in 2000. Unfortunately there were all too small for Fata to they got as much wear as he could give them. MIL gave them to some other people, so hopefully they will get more wear out of them.

Thank you!

Who the hell works Saturdays?!?!

Someone asked me this at dinner today, and I took offense... not everyone has a 9-5 Monday to Friday job...

Please leave me a comment if you work Saturdays, whether it's temporary or permanent, stating what you do.

I want to show this person just who the hell works Saturdays...

Thank you! :-)

Singapore F1 - 26Sep'08 - Training

The Formula BMW cars are on the road for their training run along the city's afternoon streets...

Singapore F1 - 26-28Sep'08

Rumbling thunder and pitter-pattering rain on the morning of Singapore first F1 race and the world's first night city race...

Traffic held up along North Bridge Road with the whole of the Marina area closed for the event...
And for special events... flowers in the MRT stations! :-)

Isaac Montoya @ Singapore Biennale 2008

This evening after work, i crossed North Bridge Road, then Stamford Road to meet friends for dinner at Raffles City Shopping Center.

I looked up and saw a huge poster hanging atop the Robinson's entrance. It initially looked like a 3D picture of some kind, which started an unconscious look around for 3D spectacles. There were no spectacles but there were 2 large boxes, one with a red filter and one with a blue filter.

The 3D poster looks like a person laughing in the middle with a rodent on the bottom left.

If you stand in the red filter box, the same picture looks like a sad little girl in the middle, with a little boy peering over the left bottom corner.

In the other filter box, the blue one, you see a laughing man in the middle, and the profile of another man's face on the left. Very cool...

Showed it to SY and Pea, and told whoever else was there to make sure they see the picture through both filters.

Kumxia the Singapore Biennale 2008 for introducing me to Issac Montoya. :-)

Foie Gras Sushi!

Ok, I pick my battles. Haven't had shark's fin since 2000, eight years and counting...

This is foie gras sushi (the battle I've not picked) from Wahiro Japanese Restaurant. I know that they are in Katong Mall and behind United Square.

It is yummers!!!!!!!!

Kumxia whoever thought of putting foie gras sushi rice! :-)

Thank you Beijing!

The 2008 Olympics in Beijing has come to an end.

Very happy that these Olympics were within favorable time zones, like the 2000 Sydney games.
When it goes to London in 2012, it'll be like the 2004 games in Athens... an almost zero chance of catching any of the events live...

Oh well, super kumxia to Beijing for a memorable 2ish weeks of record breaking sports. Kumxia!

Plus a special thank you to the Singapore Women's Table Tennis team who earned a Silver medal in the first team event in ping pong. The only other medal Singapore won was another silver medal way back in 1948... :-)

Today's Inspiration - 11Aug'08

Reese's for the afterlife?

It is the 7th lunar month, a whole month's whole of Halloween...

We did the prayer thing last Saturday and chanced upon Reese's Peanut Butter Cups! And not in the usual party pack!

Several sheets of the silver paper were 'printed' with what appeared to be the front packaging for Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.

My aunt had noticed that if you remove the thin plastic lining, we'll get our silver paper without the peanut butter cups.

Hhhmmm... is this my grandpa's way of telling us that he wants some Reese's Peanut Butter Cups?

08.08.08

On this 8th day of the 8th month in the year 2008, i want to thank everyone who's made my life worth living, and continue to make my life worth living.

Kumxia!

P.S.
The opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics was gorgeous! Lots of people, lots of fireworks! Plus that colorful mural made of dancers, little kids, and thousands of footprints was beautiful idea, Zhang Yimou did a good job. :-)

Plus, that final lap of the olympic torch across the top of the bird's nest stadium to bring alight the spirit of this year's games. The fireworks were indeed breath-taking, all the way in the beginning with the giant footsteps leading to the stadium, to the closing fireworks which set the Beijing sky in pulsating light streams.

To Stay Places in Bali

Just got 2 recommendations from a friend who's going to get married in Bali, on a couple of seriously gorgeous villas.

The first one's Ombak Luwung in Canggu, with 5 bedrooms. This friend's wedding is going to be here.

The other one's The Khayangan, at Uluwatu. Luxurious spaces... The only problem is that as it is next to another resort, there is a 10pm curfew of sorts, so it's NOT a late night party place.

Tokidoki Onitsuka Tiger

I'm certainly late on this, but a few models of the Tokidoki Onitsuka Tiger sneakers are available at Tangs, along Orchard Road in Singapore. They retail at SG$269.00 per pair.

The other place in Singapore was/is the Star ThreeSixty store at the Paragon Shopping Center, also along Orchard Road.

Subjective...

I'm super snap happy when it comes to taking photos. I'm no fancy photographer, I just like to grab that moment! Every moment! hahaha... But lately it's been getting mixed reactions, I think I'm going to keep it to myself more. Can't please everyone...

On a happier note, I like this KOK brand digital echo AV amplifier. Can't even find it online!

Night Festival

We went for the National Museum of Singapore's Night Festival on it's first evening yesterday.

It featured the Italian Festivi group, known for their dancing in the sky.

The road in front of the museum was closed 'cos it was used as  a stage for a dancer in a big plastic ball, super all dancers in huge white dresses. The SMU grounds just opposite also featured a gorgeous dance by a lady a bowl of water

Some of the best performances were the 2 huge balloons, each suspended a dancer. The balloons flew high and low over the audience's heads.

Glad Fata and I had decided to stay for all the performances which ended past 1:30am!

Your total opposite? On the bad side...

I'm sure everyone has someone who rubs them the WRONG way, and there's NOTHING you can do about it!

Be glad if you can, 'cos not being able to is way worse!

Villa Sankara - The Gekko survives!

... that was close ...

Long hard stares...

What makes Bali, Bali?

These religious decorations are pretty, and they can get rather elaborate and very tall.

Kijang runs with Casettes!

Haven't seen an audio cassette for ages!

This kijang we got on one of the days had one! It brings back fond memories on mix tapes back in school...

Villa Sankara - The Gekko gets in over its head

Oops!

A View for the Weary...

Anything for that perfect shot...

Villa Sankara - upstairs reading room

The view from the upstairs reading room, directly above the living room.

There is a long strip of mirror along 2 lengths of the walls, so wherever you are in this room, there's always view of the Indian Ocean.

Villa Sankara - the 5th bathroom

This is the 5th bathroom at Villa Sankara. Next to the TV room.

The sink's a dug out stone!

More long stares...

Villa Sankara - NO direct access to the beach - yet?

Contrary to some of the websites advertising Villa Sankara, Canggu-Bali, there is NO direct access to the beach. (at least not between 26June and 01July 2008).

You can see the half built bridge from the back garden towards the beach.

And it is NOT a private beach. It is a local beach, with snack sellers, soccer players, cyclists, kite flyers and strollers.

I think there was another website which stated that all the bedrooms had DVD players and TVs... there are NONE in the bedrooms. Though the bathrooms are entertainment enough.

Baby Storrler Fan

Saw this at a large supermarket late last year.

Villa Sankara - The Gekko catches some rays...

This is the life...

Muvee pin-up?

Villa Sankara - The Gekko gets 'jiggy-jiggy'

The 3 guys found themselves in a cab after golf one day, and the cabbie asked them if they wanted 'jiggy-jiggy'... 3 guys in a cab... what else could it be.

Big happy pink thing in the pool!
